The Chataeu Gaillard is actually a large castle ruin that sits over the Seine River in Les Andelys.  It was built in 1197 by the English King Richard the Lionhearted-during the time that England still ruled this part of France.  The castle fell to the French in 1204 and was allowed to fall into ruins over time.

Maya and I had to ride in our packs to tour the castle ruins.
