On Sunday we headed out early, driving south of Salzburg into the mountains.  Don't worry Grandma, all of these pictures were taken from the safety of pull-offs along the road-NO taking pictures while driving!!!

We were able to drive the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse or High Alpine Road.  This is a private road that goes through the highest sections of the Austria Alps.  Since it is a tourist road, there are plenty of places to pull over and enjoy looking at the mountains.

at the Edelweissitze parking area, 2571 meters above sea level, the highest point on the road.  From here you can see more than 30 3,000 meters peaks.

The Heiligenblut pilgrimage church

When we got back to Salzburg, we visited the Mirabell Gardens, another place that was used in the Sound of Music
